Giving Thanks

November 26, 2015

Today is Thanksgiving and I’m cooking cornbread dressing, yams, green beans, pasta with tomato’s and a turkey.  All of these things my mother-in-law taught me to cook.  I had no idea where to start and she took the time so many years ago to pass her dishes  to me.  I’m so thankful for that because today I cooked wearing her reading glasses and I’m using them to write this blog.  My eyes are filled with tears as I think about her and the many holidays we spent in the kitchen cooking.  We had an odd relationship, most didn’t understand it.  We were honest with each other, we loved each other and I will always be grateful for the role of a mother she played in my life.  I miss her but I’m thankful for her.  I only hope she is smiling in Heaven because I’m carrying on her traditions.  She has been gone a year now and it doesn’t get any easier when you miss someone.

I hope that you will take the time to remember the great memories from years past and enjoy the new ones you are making today.  There will be many more Thanksgivings but this one will only come once.  Next year the book might read different for your family and friends.  I’m praying for all of you that you are blessed today at home or in your travels.  May God be with you all, Happy Thanksgiving.
