It’s Monday my favorite day of the week. It’s a day that’s full of promise, a day full of excitement as to what will come over the next 5 days. On Saturday I sat at my work table as it was raining outside and thought about the week coming up. I knew that I needed to plan a bit because the week was gonna be a full one.
I worked out and planned my classes at Wylie Prep and made mental notes as to things I needed to do with new projects starting in class first thing Monday. I did all this while I was working on a great little piece I found at a thrift store a few weeks ago. I paid practically nothing for it – $6.99 AMAZING! It’s a little desk or vanity storage cabinet. It would be great for make up, jewelry, pens, medicine or really just about anything that is small and needs to be put away.
It needed no repairs it was well made and sturdy. I painted it out in cream white so anyone could use it in any decor. I used 2 coats of paint and let it dry completely before moving on. Once it was dry a sanded all the edges and corners to have the worn and aged look. When doing this you have to be careful not to sand away too much or it will not look natural. If you do remove too much you can just simple add paint back and wait until it dries to sand. I finished it with a coat of clear wax.
I wanted the knobs to be something special and I think these did the job. I can’t seem to ever put matching knobs; I just like the way different knobs gives it personality.
These small wood cabinets are easy to find at a thrift store or garage sale. They are so functional for organizing and keeping things put away. My favorite ones hang on the wall. It puts things up and away in a space that normally is left unused in our home space. It’s not a decorating sin to have lots of stuff we just need to organize it away when we aren’t using it. You can also use open hanging selves with decorative baskets, boxes or really any type of container.
