A very good friend of mine contacted me about 2 dressers she had. She wanted them to be redone for her daughter Emma. These dressers came from a family member and they wanted to reuse them in Emma’s new room. This family was about to embark on a new venture, their oldest was moving off to college. I remember when my oldest left for college. It’s sad, happy, scary and hopeful all rolled up in one big tear.
The move out of the oldest gives Emma a new room. Cindy and Emma brought the dressers to the house to leave for me to work on. Emma has taken art from me for years and I’m very fond of her. She is a little girl with her own opinion about things. So I wasn’t surprised when she had pictures from Pinterest how she wanted the dressers to look. Emma and I have the same taste in furniture I was glad that she wanted it to have the worn look.
I used creme chalk paint from Lowes along with a wax finish coat. I applied 2 coats of the paint and then sanded the edges off. Emma was very clear she didn’t want them to have too much worn spots on them “only do it lightly Mrs. LaTonya”. I love this kid, she knows what she wants and who she is.
You will notice there are no knobs on the front of the dresser. Emma said she didn’t want the old wood knobs and she would be picking her own. So that part is left for Emma to complete I’m sure she will have fun picking them out while driving her mom crazy.
I had a blast doing these pieces because I have such a special relationship with this family. I love to do things for the people in my life, it makes me Blue Happy. Christmas is coming and if you shop well you can find some pieces to do for those special people in your life and make them Blue Happy!
