I’m a very organized person. I love to know where everything is and everything has to have a place. Yes, I’m over the top in that area. For many years Greg and I have had our own closets. In our home in Lucas we had his and her closets. It was amazing! When we bought the house we live in now it only had one master closet. It was extremely large so I thought we would be fine.
After living here for only a few weeks I realized Greg and I had different ideas on what a closet should be used for. I rearranged, reorganized and finally just gave up. I would go in get what I needed and get out. When we started the remodel of our Master Bathroom, master closet and master bedroom I decided this was it I would finally figure this shared space out.
I really didn’t need to change where the clothing was hanging but the shoes, folded clothing, socks and other odds and ends needed to be organized. When we moved the big glass sliding doors out and installed a single door that gave us a small wall space. I took advantage of that for everyday use. I made Greg and myself a set of hooks to hang clothing and swim suits. Things we use over and over daily. I made these just like I did the towel rack in my bathroom redo. Painted out the boards in black, sanded off the edges and corners added clear coat and hooks. These have proven to be of great use to us. Below that I put a shoe rack that holds 8 pairs; we use this for our everyday shoes.
Above the closet door I added a shelf. I wanted a place to store those special shoes I don’t wear but on special occasions. I’m a sneaker girl at heart but I like to dress up ever so often. I bought the clear plastic shoe cubbies that close so the shoes don’t get dusty. Nothing worse than getting ready for a great night out and you look down to see your black shoes have a mist of dust and a gray look.
You will also notice that I painted the area around the door with the same gray color I used on the bathroom walls. By using the same color in the closet it pulls the two spaces together. The tile I used in the master bathroom I ran all the way in the closet as well. I love the feel of tile in my closet I’m not a carpet fan at all.
I wish I could have given you a full shot of the make over, but even though the space was 8×14 it was hard to get back far enough. So I decided to just do project shots. It still tells the story of a more organized space.
This closet redo, although simple and easy, has made getting ready so much easier. Everything has a place and everything is in its place. Greg has decided he likes the new organized closet. Mostly because it makes me Blue Happy and that makes him Blue Happy. Go find your Blue Happy!
