3 Ways to Reinvent a Magazine Rack

September 29, 2015

My favorite thing to do is find something that had one purpose in the past and reinvent it for a different purpose. Sometimes to do this you have to do a full rehab to something but other times it’s as simple as renewing and reusing.

I found this great little magazine holder and loved it’s shape. I know I’ve done them in the past to sit by your bed and hold books. I wanted this to function different, to have a use other than books. So I brainstormed and came up with some cool ideas.

I won’t bore you with all the quirkie ideas just a few that I feel are no fail and can add some function.

  1. How many times do you jump in the shower and forget to grab a towel? I’ve done that a lot. Why not roll up your towels and place this by your shower or in your bathroom for extra storage. I placed it by my shower door so I always have a towel within arms reach.
  2. My next idea would be to solve a problem I deal with every winter. Blankets all over my family room. I fold them up but they look messy all stacked up on the couch or fireplace. I found a metal magazine holder and used it to roll up all my blankets nice and neat out of the way. It’s a perfect place to hold them when not being used.
  3. Last but not least I love this idea also a winter saver. Place the rack at your door you use the most. Place a rug of decorative towel under it.  When those wet, snowy or muddie shoes come it you place them in the rack to drip and dry. A perfect dry rack for winter.

I try to look around my home and see how we live. I then try to imagine what is the best way to make it work for my family in a functional way.  At the same time make it decoratively functional. I know there are stores and items out there that have the same function but it’s way more fun to find something old at little to no cost and reinvent it for your home. In total the magazine rack, paint and clear coat cost was $9 plus a bit of my time.

I love reinventing and try to make it a game to see how cheap I can get it done. It’s a Blue Happy moment for me. Play the game and see how you can redo something to make it decoratively functional.  Go be Blue Happy!
