Torn Table

August 26, 2015

This little table was one of the first pieces I refurbished. Sadly there are no before pictures so let me describe it to you. It was nasty and all covered in this weird dark green, you know that green that was all the rage in the 90’s called hunter green. It had all kinds of dents and scratches and a few deep cuts. It wasn’t something that I would have put in my home as is.

There was so much damage to the top of the table that I knew I couldn’t just paint or stain. So I had to come up with another solution.

I set that idea aside and started the bottom half of the table. I decided to paint it white and distress it. I painted 3 coats of white because the legs also had a bit of damage. The 3 coats of paint covered many of the imperfections. Once the paint was dry I distressed the legs with my trusty little sander. At this point I should be at the clear finish stage, but I wanted it to have a more aged look so…….I glazed it. It looked amazing! The glazed got down into all the little cracks and dents. By doing this it made the damage a good part of the design.

So now we are back to the very damaged top. I collected many different types of paper, stickers and punch out art from cards. I started by tearing the different paper into many  sizes. I used a Mod Podge for out-door use to attach them.  After I got the paper the way I wanted I started placing the punch out art and stickers in various places until I was happy with the lay out. I decided to do most of this in one corner to give it an unbalanced look so the eye would go right to that spot. Once every thing was in place I finished off the piece with 5 coats of the outdoor Mod Podge.

Although I wanted to keep this little table I didn’t have room for it .  That is the hard part about doing all this lovely furniture you can’t keep every piece.  As I have said before I have a hard and fast rule about only having what you need and not having a cluttered up space.

Try to find one small thing you can redo around your home to better a room. It’s easy to start with something small so you don’t drive yourself crazy. Redoing furniture makes me perfectly Blue Happy. Put some thought into your Blue Happy!
