I’m a summer person. I love the heat and love to be in the pool. When we bought this house one of the things that sold us was the backyard. It was a corner lot with a great covered patio next to the pool. That was 3 out of 3 of my requirements for my house hunt.
Greg and I spend almost every evening on our patio and floating in the pool. We love to have our friends and family over to just hang out and enjoy. Even Cooper loves the pool and his own float.
When we moved in the patio had great bones. It was covered and was a great size about 10×14. The first thing we did was buy a patio table and chairs from Craig’s List. We thought that was the way to go. We found that we didn’t really like hanging out on the patio because it wasn’t comfortable. So I decided to make it comfortable.
We decided to make it into a second living area. So I sold the table and chairs and made a little profit. Then I made a list of what we needed in this second living space.
The list started short and continued until it was quite long. First, an outdoor sofa for $300 on Craigslist, then a coffee table. The metal base was $20 at a second-hand shop and the wood on top was from a found pallet so it was free. The 2 side chairs were in someone’s trash pile, cleaned them up and added cushions $25 at Garden Ridge. The cute little side table from an earlier blog about $11 and the bench was $10 at an estate sale (painted by me). The small dining table was $27 at Rusty by design auction and the chairs as well for $12 set of 4. The hanging candle holder was a steal at Hobby Lobby for $12. I needed a way to store towels on the patio so a dresser for $10 at an estate sale worked perfect. Flower pots and pillows I had so those were free. I added art on the wall to warm it up. Art work doesn’t have to be just for inside, it can be for any living space. You will also notice to block the Texas sun in the late afternoon we bought from a house demo sale bamboo shades all for $37. Grand total for the patio………$427 WOW!!!!!
Out on the open patio area we placed a sweet red table I also found in the trash along with the 2 chairs that sit on either side.
We love our pool and patio area it’s a place to relax and enjoy each other at the end of the day. I can say that a lot of mine and Greg’s meaningful conversations have happened on the patio or in the pool. We don’t take our phones out there most of the time. We like that we unplug a bit. I see many more years and seasons on the patio. It really is our favorite place in the house. We bought a heater this past winter and when we drop the shades you can sit out there and be quiet toasty and warm. It’s comfortable, cozy and makes us really Blue Happy. Go turn your outdoor space into a Blue Happy space for you and your family!!!! If you are lost for ideas on how to do that email me a picture of your outdoor space and I might write a blog on it and give you some great ideas. Fall is coming, how sweet it would be to have a Blue Happy new space.
