Space in our homes can be limited but recreating the space can be amazing. By rethinking the spaces we live in it can add an abundance of room without adding on or moving.
A family room is mostly used for the family to watch TV or to play video games. It usually is full of couches and chairs maybe a coffee table with matching end tables. Rethink the space, what else can this room be used for, what other activities can go on in this space. Line one wall with a work space with storage for arts and crafts or homework space, while leaving the other part of the room for TV and video time. Maybe turn an old TV cabinet into a sewing space. When you aren’t using it you can close it all away and no one will know it’s there. It’s all about rethinking the room for dual use.
The most unused space in a home are the formal living and formal dining room. These are definite rooms that can be used in multiple ways. Dining rooms can be great as office space. Move the chairs away from the table, push the table against the wall, use one of the chairs as an office chair. Place 2 of the chairs on the opposite wall and place a small table between them. All other chairs can be stored or placed around the house until you have a dinner and need them. When you do have a use for your dining room just move the furniture back to stage your dining room. To hide all your office supplies simple use a dining buffet to store it all. When its a dining room use the top as your serving area.
You can take any room in your home and create any type of space you need. It doesn’t always have to be the way it was originally planned, make it work for your family. Creating new space can give your home a refreshed look with much-needed space for your family.
When you start to redo any room make a plan, Then clean out the unwanted and unusable items. Once you have a plan work it but be willing to give a little so that the whole family is part of the redesign.
Think about space that is unused in your home, a guest room, dining room, formal living room or even the patio. Now what type of space do you need to improve on your family and their function in your home. If you do this you will be on your way to making your home work for you.
Recently I announced that we are building a new studio space for me in my back yard. We have decided to make it a dual purpose room. It will first of all be a space for me to work on my art, furniture and Blue Happy Living but it will also serve as a gathering space. On the weekend it will be a place to hang out near the pool. The doors will open up to the pool and it will have an out-door kitchen area for dining. The art table will transform into a dining table and the work station will transform into a serving area. I can’t wait to share this one with you in a future blog. Hopefully it will not take as long as the bathroom remodel.
I hope that this blog today has left you with thoughts of your home and how it can better serve your family. Making your home work no matter the size big or small will make your family Blue Happy. Go redesign your Blue Happy.
