The paint is dry, the tile is set, and the noisy sounds of tools have come to an end. I’m so happy we are moving back into our bathroom and bedroom. Oh happy days!
This has been one of the longest remodels I’ve ever done. We had mishaps and problems from the get go. At one point I broke my foot and the work all but stopped while I healed. I take pride in doing all my DIY projects myself. I was so disappointed when Greg hired a tile guy to finish the shower and floor, but school was starting and he knew we couldn’t finish in time. We didn’t make it by school start but just 2 weeks after we are at the finish line.
There are so many parts to this remodel so I’m just going to give you a simple break down and total of the money spent.
- Paint $90
- Tile, grout and thin set $1800
- Granite $700
- Hands free Toilet $300
- Hardware $60
- Faucets and shower head $450
- Lumber, sheet rock and etc $550
- Decorative items $100
- Cabinet for towels $40
- Teak Stool for shower $140
- Lighting $150
- Mirrors $90
That’s a total of $4470 but now the sad part is because I broke my foot the tile guy cost me another $2000. So my plan of not going over $5000 got busted. Still, a bathroom this large at this cost is a pretty good deal and I’m proud of the sweat equity we put into this project.
GRAND TOTAL: $6470
The before pictures speak for themselves and they scream, “Ugly!” This house was built in the early 1990’s and has had no update at all. We found a leak under the bathtub and that’s really what started this remodel.
We decided not to replace the tub because we are not tub people. Instead we love a good shower so that is why we went for a walk in shower. We didn’t want any glass because it’s so hard to keep clean. The decorative line and the floor is done in river rock. When we removed the shower we found that the seat had been leaking. We didn’t replace it so I bought a teak shower stool.
As you can tell by now I like dark neutrals. I did the walls light but the floors and cabinets are both dark in color. The tile goes from the master bedroom into the bathroom and finishes off in the large closet. You will get to see the closet redo next week and the master bedroom the week after that. Both are so great and fun. So this remodel wasn’t just the bathroom we did all 3 at once. This is why I’m so very tired.
We removed the sliding mirror doors going into the closet and replaced it with a door. This gave us a little extra space to the right of the new door to put a dressing mirror. I bought an old cabinet at an online auction and redid it to use for towel storage outside the shower. I also have a few towels rolled up and in between the 2 sinks. I found this great little shelf in a garage sale for $2 painted it black and added a basket for storage.
This bathroom was a labor of love for Greg and me. We love to have nice things around us and we love living in a nice home. We both worked so hard, disagreed a lot and had some very tense moments but in the end we did all the work (except for the tiling). We are so proud of this bathroom and look forward to enjoying it for years to come. I’m sure it will bring us more Blue Happy!
