Road Trip! Here we go to Denton, Texas! This little town is home of the University of North Texas and they are proud of it. We arrived at the Denton town square about 9:30 and was amazed that the parking was so great. Guess that should have been our first clue that most of the stores don’t open until 10 or 11 – oops my bad! No big deal we found a great cafe to have coffee and breakfast treats. I had a great visit with Karen, Heather and Ethan, then we hit the side walk to shop. They did grip a bit about the early departure from home but quickly settled in to shop.
Denton is a very old town with lots of great culture and people to meet. We started on one side of the square and worked our way all the way back around. There is one flaw to the Denton square the parking is for 2 hours only. So every one and a half hours I had to walk back to the car and move it. We never saw who was doing it but every time I went back to my car the tire was marked with chalk. Even though that was a pain the town is worth a visit.
We loved all the stores we went into, but by far the candy store Atomic we had the most fun in. My grandson Ethan was overwhelmed with all the candy and what to pick for his treat. Karen and I both had a great time remembering candy from our childhood. They had everything from our past. It even brought about stories from when we were kids. We giggled and gabbed about these memories. Right outside the candy store we met one of those interesting people I mentioned and Ethan loved his new friends.
Oh my, all the stores, I can’t name them all but I’m pretty sure we went into them all. Impressions is a great store to shop. It is a place to browse the unusual handmade ceramic creations made by the artists at The Denton State Supported Living Center. These artists learn valuable work skills while at Impressions as they create these great pieces of pottery. I bought a great blue bowl that I will highlight in a future blog about my new remodeled bathroom. It’s coming down the pipe line – if it just ever gets finished!
Serendipity was a jewel on the square. Did you read my blog earlier this week on Tuesday? Well if you did this is the store where I got the great hardware for the towel hook project. This store had so many great items and its so full of ideas on how to add great functional art to your home. The people who owned the store were the people working in the store so it had a great Ma & Pa feeling. I love to meet the people behind a great store or product it makes what you buy some how seem better.
We headed on around the square visiting a Mall with lots of vintage items. It was filled top to bottom with so many goodies. I found two old tiles to add to my collection for a project that is on my “I’ll do it someday” list. Around the corner we ended up in a book store my daughters favorite for the day. Heather loves books and while I think they are very important, not my favorite place to be with all the vintage stores to go into. I did have a great time with my grandson while we waited on Mommy to shop. Karen also enjoyed the book store. Those two are a lot alike it makes me happy that my daughter thinks of my BFF as her Aunt Karen.
We stopped at so many stores all had great items to look at, buy or get ideas from. One of the last stores we went into was called Shop the Barn it had something for every one of us. We spent at least an hour in that store with all its old, redone, made new again and over the top ideas for your home items. It will be a store we shop again and again. As I said before there are great stores to shop and the square is full of history and kind people. The nicest ladies we met that day were at a vintage store called Circa 77 Vintage. They have so many vintage clothing items and more.
By this time it was about 2:00 pm and well we were all hungry so we headed off to a great place called Rooster’s Roadhouse. It has great food! You can’t pick a bad meal at Rooster’s. Heather had pulled pork and Karen and I had bun less burgers (we are still on our Health journey). All was great and we had some good giggles and story telling. I will remember this summer for many years as the summer I finally made a plan and did it. It has been a treasure to spend these special day trips getting closer with my beautiful adult daughter and getting closer to Karen. Ethan was the cherry on top of the trips. In the past I have always let things get in the way of the plans I made for summer. I’m so glad I overcame that this summer. It truly has been so far a Blue Happy summer with more happy times ahead.
Next week gets started with what’s on my heart and I can’t wait to share that with you. Also create Tuesday, redos and makeovers ending the week with something special (hint why is my house so dusty?). Go have a Blue Happy Living day!!!
